Build A Basketball Team calculates team Overall Rating from five starters, and chemistry punishes cards that do not match their natural position. That makes position priority as important as rarity tier when you decide where to spend rerolls from Codes or quest payouts. This page ranks PG, SG, SF, PF, and C slots by how often they make or break a lineup during Early Beta, so you stop refreshing entire pools when only one role is weak.

These priorities assume you are drafting for team OVR first, not flexing a shiny collection. A center-first strategy might flip if your next quest asks for wing OVR, but the default order below matches what most beta squads need before they break into the mid-90s. Why position order matters more than raw OVR

Two lineups can share similar talent totals and land different team OVR numbers because chemistry adjusts each starter. The weakest mis-slotted role drags the entire rating, while a correct-role Rare can outperform an off-role Epic. Position priority tells you which slot fixes create the largest team OVR jumps per reroll.

Before you reroll anything, try swaps documented in Chemistry. Priority tiers below apply after swaps fail — when the pool offer itself is the problem.

S-priority: Point guard (PG)

Point guard is S-priority in most beta drafts because playmaking labels are strict and mismatches cascade into both guard slots. A natural SG forced to PG often triggers penalties that also block your SG from sliding over cleanly.

Reroll PG offers when:

• The card natural position is not PG or a documented combo guard that still chemistry-matches.
• Team OVR stalls below quest thresholds despite solid wings and bigs.
• You are following Starter Build templates that assume a true facilitator at the one.

Keep PG offers that are only Rare tier if they are the first correct-role card you have seen in ten rolls. Chemistry value beats rarity at this slot early.

A-priority: Center (C)

Center is A-priority because rim protection and interior rebounding profiles usually carry high OVR floors, but off-role forwards at center are a common beta trap. A natural PF at C can work in some pools; a natural SG at C is almost always wrong.

Centers deserve rerolls when:

• Your incumbent is a wing or guard filling C out of desperation.
• Legendary or MVP chase cards appear at C and you need the slot for team OVR, not collection.
• Best Lineups templates list C as the anchor for your target OVR band.

If you already have a chemistry-clean C, shift reroll budget to PG or your weakest wing before touching center depth.

A-priority: Small forward (SF)

Small forward shares A-priority with center because SF is the flexible glue role between guards and bigs. Many cards list hybrid wing labels; SF is where those hybrids belong when their natural position says SF or wing.

SF rerolls matter when:

• You are running two guards who cannot slide to SF without breaking both slots.
• Pool offers keep feeding SG profiles while your SF slot stays empty or mis-slotted.
• You need a mid-OVR lift to bridge from high 80s toward How to Reach 100 OVR.

Do not reroll a correct-role SF just because a shiny SG appeared — evaluate whether moving the shiny breaks Chemistry Builds links first.

B-priority: Shooting guard (SG)

Shooting guard is B-priority once PG and SF are stable. SG labels overlap heavily with PG in real basketball, but Build A Basketball Team treats them as distinct chemistry slots during beta. Players often stack two guards early; SG becomes the reroll focus only after PG is legal.

Spend on SG when:

• PG is correct-role but SG is still a forward or point guard misfit.
• Quest rewards target backcourt OVR specifically.
• Your refresh from Codes Update opened a guard-heavy pool worth fishing.

Otherwise, a B-tier Rare SG that chemistry-matches beats rerolling for Legendary hype that arrives off-role.

B-priority: Power forward (PF)

Power forward is B-priority behind C because many PF profiles can temporarily anchor the frontcourt if C is correct, but long-term 95+ squads want a true PF for balanced spacing. PF rerolls rise in importance when you run a C who is actually a PF and need to demote someone to bench logic.

Target PF when:

• C is set but frontcourt OVR lags guards by more than five points adjusted.
• Pool refreshes skew toward modern stretch bigs that fit PF naturally.
• Players Hub lookup shows your chase name lists PF as natural position.

C-priority: bench and duplicate depth

Any slot already filled with an A-tier or S-tier correct-role starter drops to C-priority for rerolls. Duplicates at the same position — second Legendary PG when your starter is legal — are collection sidegrades unless trade or bench systems expand in beta.

Stop rerolling filled slots when team OVR gains come only from +1 OVR sidegrades. Redirect refreshes to new pools or finish Quests for more rerolls.
